Warmly welcomes new singing members. We rehearse on Saturday afternoons (generally every other week, but sometimes consecutive weeks) from 2pm to 4.15pm, with a break in the summer.

The Choir performs concerts, free of charge, for local organisations, churches and charities and holds its own even just before Christmas (with Easington Colliery Band) and in early June at Northallerton Forum. The Choir is always looking for new recruits. You don't need to read music. Music rehearsals are normally held on Friday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at the Sacred Heart Church Hall, Northallerton. We move on to floor rehearsals on other weekday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Detailed rehearsal schedules mean that not everyone is required at all rehearsals until nearer to the show date.

One of the UK's leading non-professional orchestras. At its most spectacular it is an exceptionally fine and very large symphony orchestra, often working with top class international soloists. However, it also operates as a chamber orchestra, giving smaller concerts in a variety of venues. The players (a mix of professionals, semi-pros, teachers, students amateurs and talented schoolchildren) come from all over the north of England.

Sowerby Music runs 'Music For Life', an outreach programme for primary and special schools in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire. It originated with the society’s aspiration ‘to encourage a life long love of music within our young people’. It is the largest and longest running programme of its kind in the country to be organised by a music society.

The first (that we can find) full sized orchestra in the market town of Thirsk. Thirsk Sinfonia aims to give both musicians performing and the audience a varied and challenging repertoire of classical music that will be interesting and enjoyable to all ages.
